When James Johnson, a middle aged American quality engineer, is sent to Asia on business, he is overwhelmed and enchanted by the rich complexity of the culture. Invited into the homes of the people he meets, he becomes so enthralled with the area that he vows to find a soul mate and bring her back to the U.S.. His high regard for women hampers his insatiable sexual urges and causes him personal and public problems. Now he must decide if the happiness he seeks is even possible because of his almost-uncontrollable feelings

“You can find your chosen soul mate in an exotic, foreign land and still hold on to your high regard and respect for women while remaining an intensely passionate human being,” Theisen says. “You can also change your ways to accommodate the new you and can have respect for women who you would not have had respect for before.”

According to Theisen, researchers have found evidence that certain individuals are born with a gene structure that leads to different variations in libido. The author refers to that aspect of his biological makeup as his “hello gene,” a biochemical cause that helps to explain his sometimes elevated sex drive. The character of James Johnson shares that trait and his story reveals the thoughts and experiences Theisen went through during his own travels abroad. The book also contains over 50 photographs taken by Theisen throughout his journeys.
